Top 10 Dairy Free Christmas Chocolates For Sheer Indulgence!

Lifestyle / Saturday, November 12th, 2022

With so much selection out there these days, it can be a minefield to get it right when thinking of buying chocolates for yourself and loved ones. So if you are looking for dairy free options and want it to be luxuriously indulgent and bring a huge smile to the person you’ve gifted it to, even if that person is you, this list is a must for Christmas!

I’ve pulled together some top recommendations, some I have tried personally and others come with high praise from others. We want a delicious, indulgent chocolate fix this Christmas and just because we want it dairy free doesn’t mean we want lack luster, fake tasting bars of nonsense, of which, you still unfortunately find in many supermarkets!

NOMO

So let’s kick this list off with my ALL time favourite chocolate brand, and that’s NOMO – from the Cookie Dough or Chocolate Orange Reindeer to the NOMO Caramel Chocolate! They don’t have an actual selection box, but that doesn’t mean you can’t grab a beautiful tin to fill with your favourite flavours. Even their bog standard Creamy Choc is smoothly tasty and very moreish! These can be found in pretty much every major supermarket and online. Go crazy!

Their range includes: Caramel Chocolate, Fruit & Crunch, Creamy Chocolate, Caramel and Sea Salt, Hazelnot Crunch, Chocolate Orange Crunch, Dark Chocolate.

Booja Booja

I have been buying Booja Booja truffles for many years now. It started with my Nanna, who had an incredibly sweet tooth. I used to buy her chocs from Fortnum and Masons (mainly for the pretty box), but then switched to the Champagne Truffles from Booja Booja and she was hooked. Not only that, but after my mum got her hands on a couple from my Nanna’s box she too was a convert and I can’t buy her any other chocolates.

They have a fantastic range that has grown throughout the years. The favourite is always the Champagne Truffles, swiftly followed by the Gourmet Collection, where you get a little bit of everything, including: Fine de Champagne, Hazelnut Crunch, Around Midnight Espresso, Almond Salted Caramel, Rum Sozzled Sultana and Stem Ginger (my mouth is literally watering!)

Monty Bojangles

This is a new brand for me. It was my mum that picked up a box today, the Vegan Chocolatey Truffle Selection, when we were in Sainsbury’s and I am so glad she did. These are beautiful. The selection we had included, Caramel Haze, Cocoberry Blush and Cocoa Nib Nights. They were so good, and you get 14 in a box. The Cocoberry Blush, addictive! It’s a real snip at just £3.50 a box!

Tru Pig

This is a brand I’ve got on my list to try as they sound divine. Highly recommended from vegans across the UK, they seem to be quite the hit.

Their Great Taster Gift Box sounds like the way forward, with 3 of their signature confections: Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Fudge that’s made with Whitby Salt, Triple Chocolate Truffles and Apollos (creamy chocolate filled with chocolate nougat and caramel)

Whitakers Tin-Tations

A delicious assortment of “Milk” and Dark Chocolates & a Toffee Selection. With around 80 chocolates per tin, this is what you want on the table come Christmas Day to just pick at whilst watching your favourite movie curled up on the sofa.

It gives Quality Street and Roses a real run for their money, that’s for sure! The tin includes: Strawberry Creams, Salted Caramel Creams, Coffee Creams, Black Cherry Creams, Orange Creams, Cappuccino and Honeycomb Bites, Dark Chocolate Orange & Honeycomb Bites, Chocolate Toffee, Dark Chocolate Lime & Sea Salt Crisps, Rhubarb & Ginger Crisps, Raspberry & Lavender Crisps, Dark Chocolate Espresso Squares, Dark Chocolate Raspberry Squares, Salted Caramel Squares.

This has gone straight on my Santa list!

KAKAO from Friars

Yet another new brand for me, these chocolates just lure you right in. They have an amazing dairy free selection with a very festive vibe. The Iconic Collection Vegan 24 Chocolate Box sounds like a good place to start.

Some of these flavours are giving me flash backs back to Thorntons, especially with the Divine Viennese (I used to love the Viennese truffles from Thorntons when I was a kid, my nan and I would get a bag and they’d be finished in around 5 minutes… I have to get these immediately!), Rum Bomb, Dark Side, Supreme Cookies & Cream, Lush Milk, Sicilian Orange, Legendary Sea Salted Caramel, Exceptional Espresso Martini, Ultimate Peanut Butter, Mega White, Awesome Brownie and Dazzling Strawberry & Champagne. I mean, come on, they sound incredible!

Harry Specters

I love seeing all these chocolatiers putting so much thought and effort into coming up with tantalising selections. Gone are the days of boring, weird tasting dairy free chocolate (I mean they’re still out there unfortunately, so don’t be put off dairy free if you’ve had the misfortune to pick up one of the sub optimal brand versions… they know who they are!)

So when I see these, not only fabulous flavours, but beautifully presented chocolates, it makes my heart happy. Harry Specters has a Vegan House Selection with 16 artisan chocolates including: Blackcurrant Caramel, Chai Spice, Mango & Raspberry, Orange Caramel, Passionfruit & Lemongrass, Dark Caramel, Dark Chocolate Truffle, Fresh Mint with Lime, Dark Hazelnut, Devilishly Dark, Intense Coffee, Mixed Berries Caramel, Rose & Cardamom and Strawberry & Lime.

Butterm!lk

Now, I love the Butterm!lk Caramel Nougat and the Honeycomb Blast bars. Think vegan mars bar and crunchie. Here’s a secret of mine, I pop the caramel nougat in the freezer and chop into little bite size pieces. It’s something my grandad used to do with a mars bar when I was a child, it’s just so tasty, don’t ask me why I think it’s even tastier this way!

So I am delighted to see their Christmas Range come into play. There’s the Zingy Orange Segments, Choccy Truffles. Or they have a Hot Choccy Bombe, a marshmallow filled chocolate shell, just pour over your favourite milk option – for me, it’s got to be oat! Or you could of course make up your own Chocolate selection tin with Vanilla Fudge Bites and Salted Caramel Cups,

Hotel Chocolat

It’s a high street staple isn’t it, everyone knows you get good chocolate at Hotel Chocolat and it feels fun to say “Hotel Chocolat” in your best French accent! They have an amazing box for us to indulge in, the Unbelievably Vegan H-Box. This has 14 decadent chocolates with the following mouth watering flavours: Pecan & Nutmilk, 45% Baton, Crunchy Peanut Butter and Nutmilk Buche, Orange & Nutmilk Baton, Salted Caramel and Nutmilk, Gianduja, Raspberry & Nutmilk, Orange Gianduja Bombe. This would make the perfect gift to set under the tree this Christmas.

They also have a Large Unbelievable Vegan Festive Wreath, which sounds like a taste sensation. It’s got biscuit, cherries, corn flakes and caramel for taste and texture and makes a perfect centerpiece for the dinner table enjoyed with family and friends. To be fair though, if I bought this, it wouldn’t make it to Christmas Day, looks too tempting to nibble on whenever you go into the kitchen.

Montezuma’s

I first tried Montezuma’s range last year whilst in Inverness, I had their Peppermint Half Moonies when I popped into Tescos, they were so good. I love mint chocolate! For Christmas though, Montezuma’s has got the All Stars Vegan Christmas Box. This includes: Dark Chocolate Buttons, Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Snowmen, Dark Peanut Butter Bites, Lordy Lord (Cocoa Nibs), Sunrise Truffles (chocolate orange) and Like No Udder Butterscotch Bar.

Or you could again make up your own tantalising Montezuma’s selection box by choosing from their range of mini bars: Sea Dog – Dark Chocolate with Lime & Sea Salt, Royal Mint, Like No Udder, Absolute Black 100% Cocoa and lots more dairy free options like Almond Praline Truffles, Creme de Cacoa Truffles, Coffee Truffles, you’ll find something perfect for everyone.

So whichever you decide to opt for, I hope that you enjoy every mouthful!
