Inspiring Others – Really think about what you eat

We’ve been continuing our education on food and how our diet affects us and to be honest, it’s scary, really scary what I’ve been shoveling down my throat for the past 30 years. You believe, quite rightly too, that the food that is on the shelves at the supermarket are suitable for eating, you would never stop to think that in many of the processed foods out there, so many of them are filled with chemicals and additives that are harmful to our bodies. I remember working 9-5, finishing work and getting into the car to drive home, being stuck in […]

Vegan Nori Rolls – Delicious for lunch

Today I thought I’d do something a bit special for lunch and as I used to be a big fan of sushi before I changed my diet, I thought I’d give the Nori rolls a go (no fish this time of course). I got all the kit, the rolling mat, chopsticks, sushi rice, wasabi, Nori sheets and soy sauce. I have to say though, my nori were a little on the loose side, so I need more practice at actually rolling them a lot tighter so they don’t fall apart, but I’m pleased with my first attempt. So here’s what I […]

Wholewheat Pasta with Broccoli Florets enriched with a Tahini & Mustard Sauce

On Wednesday we decided to go for a dish that was mainly raw and we found that the Almost Raw Tahini Noodles recipe fit the bill. I tweaked it a little bit, mainly the broccoli, Martin prefers it cooked a little, personal taste I suppose, it would be just as good if you just leave the broccoli completely raw. I also didn’t have any rice vinegar (original recipe) so used balsamic instead. This dish was absolutely delicious and there was enough for 2 main meals for us and also some left over to share for lunch the next day – […]

Inspirational Book Review – There is No Me Without You by Melissa Fay Greene

A few months back I was on the hunt for books that would help broaden my mind and help educate me in the cultures and experiences of others across the world, so I jumped at the chance to read Melissa Fay Greene’s ‘There is no me without you’.  Straight away from the first few pages I knew that it would be a difficult read, that it would cause an impact on my way of thinking and force me to think about certain things in a lot more detail. It’s also the type of book that spurs you into action, it […]

Inspiring People – Here is a man who genuinely makes a difference, Dr Kirt Tyson

As the previous post mentioned, we first saw Kirt Tyson when he appeared on a documentary, called Simply Raw, to take part in proving that nutrition can arrest and reverse diabetes.  The documentary was absolutely mind blowing in the results they had in just a few days, with 6 volunteers with both type 2 and type 1 diabetes, just by changing their diet to purely raw food. Many of the volunteers who were in the programme started off on insulin and a whole list of other pills to help them get through the day, but in keeping up such a […]

Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days Movie Review

We’ve been watching a lot of films on diet and exercise themes lately, and the latest we found on Amazon, entitled Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 days Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days is a documentary film which examines the effect of a raw food diet on diabetes. Film-maker Michael Bedar was inspired to create Simply Raw after a meeting with raw food advocate Gabriel Cousens in 2003. The film follows six diabetics who eat nothing but raw vegan food for a period of 30 days. Their progress and health are monitored by a team of medics. The […]
