Springtime Hiking in Spoleto

So, it’s just before 8 in the morning, the sky is blue, the birds are singing, the dogs are barking and the Italian countryside awaits us. I don my trusty pink starburst yoga pants and my all weather jacket and we hit the road for our trek of the holiday the Giro dei condotti. I’m freezing! The sky may be blue, but after 5 minutes outside, so is my face! The joys of Spring I suppose. No matter, after walking uphill at a vigorous pace I soon begin to heat up and with the sun steadily climbing the temperature starts […]

Less than 24 hours in Rome? You can still pack in a lot of sightseeing!

Last week, we arrived in Rome around 1:45pm having got the train from Ciampino to Termini. We’d already booked our night in an apartment suite just next to the Vatican, so we decided to walk from Termini, straight down Via Cavour, which eventually spits you out between the Colosseum and Vittorio Emanuele monument. Having flown in under a thick covering of cloud and spots of rain, the sun was now belting out through the clearing skies, so we stopped for a while to eat our sandwiches and grab some water all within the view of Trajan’s Forum. Feeling refreshed, we […]

Exploring the Gold Coast – Surfer’s Paradise (Part 2 of our Australia Adventure)

Just a short flight from Sydney and you can find yourself walking on the white sand beaches of the Gold Coast. It’s only an hour and a half away, so very easy to get to if you want to explore further than Sydney. The morning flight we were on was packed with people heading north for some warmer weather and we had an adorable little girl sat behind us who was very inquisitive when it came to the sea, what we were flying over and a million and one other questions that her daddy was only too pleased to answer. […]

Taking on the mighty Swinica

“There is no fun without risk” That’s the exact words that came from a fellow hiker on his descent from Swinica summit. We were just coming up to the section where the via ferrata chains began and this guy came flying down the steep slope with a big smile on his face and came to a skidding halt a few inches from the edge of a drop, spoke his words of wisdom then just carried on! Having already had my success in getting to the top of Giewont and breaking the notion that I was afraid of heights, I was […]

An Epic Hike to Morskie Oko

If you go down to the woods today… you’re sure of a big surprise! Never has a truer word been spoken on this occasion. The plan: Get up and out for 4am, walk to Morskie Oko (not bus – Walk) go see the beautiful lake, climb up to Czarny Staw pod Rysami Lake, clamber back down, then get the bus back to Zakopane. Already this was a tall order, we knew that this was just over 30km round trip, one of the longest hikes we have done in one go. I’d spent the following evening googling the walk from Zakopane […]

Fight the fear by mountain climbing in Zakopane

Truth be told I had been stressing and worrying about our trip to Zakopane. After Martin told me we would be mountaineering and taking on the High Tatra Mountains I got straight onto google to read up about it… not such a great idea to be honest. Image after image showed dizzying views and terrifying looking ascents with chains and footholds, with my sporadic bouts of vertigo I genuinely wrote off any idea of taking on the mountain trails unless they were tranquil and 90 year old grannies could do it! Looking at Instagram pictures and google images of summits […]
